About the team

We’re building up the core Swift platform, from architecture to CI, that enables hundreds of engineers (and their agents) to develop new capabilities in ChatGPT, Atlas, Sora, and other rapidly evolving apps. The focus is on helping teams move quickly while improving performance and reliability.

About the role

This role is for Staff+ iOS engineers with platform-focused backgrounds (performance, build/CI, AI developer productivity, UI frameworks, automated testing). Work will improve developer velocity, reduce friction and regressions, and improve performance across multiple apps. The team is hiring in San Francisco, New York City, and Seattle.

Responsibilities

• Build and evolve foundational Swift frameworks used across multiple apps and platforms (caching, state management, observability, navigation, component systems).
• Improve app performance (startup, responsiveness, memory, battery) via profiling, visibility, regression prevention, and architecture patterns.
• Strengthen reliability by reducing crashes, improving error handling, and driving release process improvements.
• Embed with product engineering teams to understand pain points and emerging infrastructure needs.
• Develop internal tooling and automation (Bazel, CI, testing, guardrails, Codex agent skills and systems) that increase engineering velocity.
• Translate messy real-world constraints into clean abstractions: simple APIs, enforceable contracts, and safe defaults.

Requirements

• Strong iOS engineering fundamentals: Swift, concurrency, networking, Xcode ecosystem, and experience with UIKit and/or SwiftUI.
• Experience or interest in platform problems (frameworks, architecture, performance, developer tools).
• Ownership mindset: identify major risks/opportunities, drive projects to completion, and iterate quickly.
• Measurement-driven: instrument systems, define metrics, run experiments, and iterate based on data.
• Strong communication and cross-team collaboration skills.
• Comfort with profiling, observability, CI/build systems (Bazel mentioned), automated testing, and tooling to scale Swift development.
