Details

Airbnb was born in 2007 when two hosts welcomed three guests to their San Francisco home, and has since grown to over 5 million hosts who have welcomed over 2 billion guest arrivals in almost every country across the globe. Every day, hosts offer unique stays and experiences that make it possible for guests to connect with communities in a more authentic way.

Role overview

We are looking for an Advanced Analytics Lead to help Airbnb enable travel for our millions of guests and hosts on our platform. This role sits under the Advanced Analytics family and supports Product and Business leaders within our Trust organization. The Trust organization protects, guides, and mobilizes the creation and defense of trust in our community and on our platform.

The Trust Experience Analytics team within Global Operations enables, facilitates, and streamlines integrated data-driven decision making across the Trust Product, Operations & Policy organizations. The team is committed to operational excellence and community experience through a culture of problem-solving, guided by data and research. The team injects quantitative measurements into the user journey, product defense and frictions, processes and implements objective indicators of success.

You will be part of a Trust product & operations data squad composed of product managers, engineers, ops analysts, data analysts and data scientists designing and building scalable and robust products and systems to detect and support the mitigation of fraud activities across the entire platform (Account Integrity, Content Integrity, Financial Fraud, Safety, Identity etc.). You will develop and support robust data insights through cross-functional partnerships, and help strengthen and improve the end-to-end trusted user journey (pre-trip, on-trip and post-trip). You will create data narratives and influence experimentation platforms to guide the seamless execution of new products, processes and systems, balancing safety and expression needs of the community along with business and operational constraints.

You will leverage Airbnb’s data, machine learning infrastructure, and central data science tools to build and grow measurement capacity within the organization. You will be involved in technical details of systems, collaborating with engineers, product managers, designers and operations to achieve cross-functional goals to keep Airbnb’s community safe and trusted.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and drive a data-driven product roadmap for Trust (Safety & Identity) working groups; recommend actionable, data-backed solutions to product problems and communicate effectively with Product & Engineering managers of varying technical levels.
  • Build business insights and reporting platforms to detect and mitigate potential fraud behavior and actors across the Airbnb platform.
  • Perform data modeling of entities involved in Trust creation and defense (hosts, guests, agents, etc.) using tools and frameworks to optimize the end-to-end community journey by minimizing undesired frictions while introducing proactive product defenses.
  • Define and evaluate key metrics in an unstructured problem space, including measurement of ML models that drive product; communicate a robust understanding of what moves these metrics and why.
  • Influence data-driven decisions across business verticals via business reviews, scorecards, self-serve portals, OKRs and planning.
  • Influence experimentation & measurement strategies: conduct power analyses, define exit criteria, and apply statistical models to improve inference, with emphasis on causal inference methods.

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5+ years of industry experience in business analytics. Masters or PhD in a quantitative field (Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Data Science, Operations Research) is a plus.
  • Must have experience supporting trust and safety teams and/or working closely with policy, content moderation, or security teams.
  • Expert skills in SQL.
  • Expert in at least one programming language for data analysis (Python or R).
  • Experience with non-experimental causal inference methods, experimentation, and machine learning techniques—ideally in a multi-sided platform setting.
  • Working knowledge of schema design and high-dimensional data modeling; familiarity with ETL frameworks (e.g., Airflow).
  • Ability to work under ambiguity in a fast-growth, complex environment; comfortable acting with minimal direction and proposing solutions beyond immediate scope.
  • Strong data storytelling and communication skills to frame narratives from complex data.

Benefits / Compensation

  • Base pay range: $157,000 — $185,000 USD (actual base pay depends on training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands).
  • Role may be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.

Location & Work Policy

  • This position is US - Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed with the manager.
  • Candidates must live in a US state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity (some states may be excluded).

Inclusion & Accessibility

  • Airbnb is committed to inclusive hiring and encourages applications from a diverse talent pool.
  • Reasonable accommodation is available for candidates with disabilities for the application and interview process (contact [email protected] with name, role, and requested accommodation).
