About the Team

The Integrity team at OpenAI is dedicated to ensuring that our cutting-edge technology is secure from adversarial threats. The team defends against financial abuse, scaled attacks, and other forms of misuse that could undermine user experience or operational stability.

About the Role

As a Machine Learning Engineer in OpenAI's Applied Group, you will help deploy state-of-the-art models in production environments and turn research breakthroughs into solutions that improve the trust and safety of the platform. The role focuses on fine-tuning LLMs and building ML models for integrity and safety use cases.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deploy advanced machine learning models to solve real-world problems and bring research from concept to production.
  • Collaborate closely with researchers, software engineers, and product managers to understand complex business challenges and deliver AI-powered solutions.
  • Implement scalable data pipelines, optimize models for performance and accuracy, and ensure production readiness.
  • Participate in code reviews, share knowledge, and maintain high-quality engineering practices.
  • Monitor and maintain deployed models to ensure they continue delivering value and remain robust against misuse.

Requirements

  • Master's or PhD degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Data Science, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in deep learning and transformer models.
  • Proficiency with ML frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
  • Strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, and software engineering principles.
  • Familiarity with methods for training and fine-tuning large language models (e.g., distillation, supervised fine-tuning, policy optimization).
  • Experience with search relevance, ads ranking, or LLMs is a plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, and to move fast in loosely defined environments.
  • Willingness to own problems end-to-end and pick up missing knowledge as needed.

Benefits

  • Competitive base pay (range listed below), generous equity, and performance-related bonuses for eligible employees.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance with employer contributions to Health Savings Accounts.
  • Pre-tax accounts (Health FSA, Dependent Care FSA, commuter benefits), 401(k) with employer match.
  • Paid parental leave, paid medical and caregiver leave, flexible PTO, 13+ paid company holidays, and paid sick/safe time as required by law.
  • Mental health and wellness support, employer-paid life and disability coverage.
  • Annual learning and development stipend, daily meals in offices and meal delivery credits as eligible.
  • Relocation support for eligible employees.

Compensation

  • Base pay range listed: $250,000 - $555,000 (total compensation may include equity and bonuses).
