This is a Winter 2026 (January - April) full-time internship on the Machine Learning Engineering team, focused on evals and post-training. The role is hybrid based in Palo Alto, CA. You will work on OpenBench (open, reproducible LLM evals) and collaborate across evals, post-training, infra, and product/GTM as useful. The team emphasizes low ceremony, quick feedback, and ownership.

Responsibilities

  • Build and reimplement evals end-to-end (accuracy, robustness, safety, latency).
  • Run tight SFT/DPO/RLHF-style loops; track deltas and ship models for customers.
  • Red-team models; turn quirks into metrics and provide feedback to the inference team.
  • Own scoped projects from design → implement → document → upstream.
  • Write research papers on evals you build.
  • Pitch improvements across the company and ship changes.

Requirements / Ideal candidate profile

  • Comfortable shipping work quickly and iterating: productionized side projects, CI'd repos, and tools other people use are strong signals.
  • Research-oriented: reason about eval design, failure modes, and data quality; run ablations and write tight analyses; contributions or PRs to open-source projects are signals.
  • Must-haves: agentic, kind, gritty. Hands-on experience with evals, post-training, or applied AI (not just theory). Comfort getting a bit hacky while keeping results reproducible.

Compensation

  • US pay range for technical internships: $30 - $50 per hour. Pay is determined by location, skills, qualifications, experience, and internal benchmarks. Compensation for candidates outside the USA depends on the local market.
