Reddit’s Ads Creative Effectiveness (ACE) team builds generative-AI and predictive products that help advertisers ship high-impact campaigns. As the team’s manager, you will set the technical vision, scale a scrappy startup-within-Reddit, and deliver ML-powered tools — from image/headline generators to real-time creative ranking — that raise the performance bar for advertisers on the platform.

Responsibilities

  • Hire, mentor, and retain a diverse crew of machine learning engineers (MLEs) and software engineers with a strong product mindset. Foster a culture of rapid iteration, ownership, and inclusion.
  • Work with product to define long-term roadmaps that align generative AI bets with Ads OKRs; translate fuzzy ideas into concrete milestones and measurable outcomes.
  • Launch and scale LLM/VLM-powered generators (images, video, text) and predictive models (creative quality scores, brand-lift). Own the full lifecycle from prototype to production.
  • Architect low-latency generation/serving stacks and petabyte-scale feature pipelines that meet privacy, safety, and compliance requirements.
  • Establish rigorous A/B and causal-inference frameworks; quantify lift, marketplace impact, and advertiser ROI.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Sales, Policy, UX, and other Ads ML teams to integrate ACE capabilities into the self-serve flow and the ad auction.
  • Embed brand-safety filters, copyright checks, and human-in-the-loop escalation paths to protect users and advertisers.

Requirements

  • Deep ML expertise with hands-on experience in tree models, neural networks, ranking systems, and especially LLM/VLM fine-tuning and RLHF/RLPF for ads.
  • Proven track record building high-throughput, low-latency services and real-time data pipelines.
  • Strong quantitative and experimentation skills: comfort with uplift metrics, variance, and causal inference to ensure impactful feature launches.
  • Understanding of ads and marketplace dynamics, including auction dynamics and advertiser pain points.
  • Startup mindset: bias to action, comfort with ambiguity, and scrappiness.
  • People leadership experience: mentoring and scaling high-impact ML teams, strong coaching and performance-management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills: able to distill complex ML trade-offs for executives, product managers, and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice-to-have

  • Prior work on ad-creative tooling (headline generators, pre-test models, auto-captioning, etc.).
  • Experience navigating brand-safety, privacy, or copyright frameworks in generative AI products.

  • This posting may span more than one career level. Base pay range for US-based candidates: $230,000 - $322,000 USD (base). Role is eligible for equity (RSUs) and may be eligible for commission depending on position.
