Machine Learning Manager - Ads Targeting Modeling

Reddit is a community of communities with 100,000+ active communities and approximately 101M+ daily active unique visitors. This role involves defining and driving the engineering strategy for Reddit’s Ads Targeting products, which are critical to scaling the business and serving tens of thousands of advertisers. The candidate will develop machine learning–powered features that identify and target highly qualified users and content to maximize advertiser outcomes.

Responsibilities

Technical Vision & Strategy

• Lead development and optimization of first-party and automation-based targeting products to scale with Reddit’s growing Ads business.
• Shape long-term technical vision balancing performance, personalization, and scalability.

Execution & Delivery

• Own execution of the team’s roadmap ensuring consistent, high-quality delivery.
• Prioritize initiatives balancing innovation and emergent needs.
• Coach engineers on execution, project management, and architectural tradeoffs.
• Identify risks early and communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Recruiting & Team Growth

• Responsible for growing the Ads Targeting Modeling team, including writing job descriptions, sourcing, interviewing, and closing top talent.

Career Development

• Guide engineers to achieve career goals through development plans, mentorship, and fostering a growth-focused culture.

Requirements

• Experience managing and growing ML engineering teams, ideally having scaled teams by over 100%.
• Proven experience building and shipping large-scale, end-to-end machine learning products.
• Technical expertise in areas such as Machine Learning, NLP, Ranking, Search Engines, Recommender Systems, or Knowledge Graphs.
• Management experience including hiring, onboarding, and talent development.
• Success launching new products (0 → 1) and scaling mature product lines.
• Hands-on technical skills with ability to solve complex problems.
• Strong communication skills for collaborating across remote teams and communicating complex topics.
• Experience in data-driven decision making and roadmap prioritization.
• Experience in multi-year technical strategy development and execution.
• Passion for building inclusive, high-performing teams and working cross-functionally.
• Experience mentoring and growing individual contributors.
• Experience in advertising domain or ad tech platforms.
• Familiarity with marketplace dynamics and auction-based ad delivery systems.

Pay Transparency

The base pay range for this position is $230,000 - $322,000 USD annually. Equity and commission may also be offered depending on position. Benefits include medical, dental, vision insurance, 401(k) employer match, generous vacation, and parental leave.
