Role Overview

The Client Data & Networking Platform’s mission is to develop the client networking libraries, frameworks, best practices and tools that empower engineers at Airbnb to build fast and reliable data-dependent features with high velocity and quality. They own Airbnb’s in-house front end API client supporting REST and GraphQL used by nearly all of Airbnb’s teams and users. This team educates engineers across the organization, shaping the paved path, best practices and influencing the engineering culture.

Responsibilities

• Partner with tech leads to shape the team’s strategy and deliver projects that transform the way 800+ engineers build and launch features.
• Mentor and empower senior ICs to grow their impact beyond individual contributions and create opportunities for leadership in technical initiatives.
• Drive product thinking and cultivate a product mindset by establishing user research processes, customer outreach, surveys, etc., to evolve tools and systems.
• Prioritize projects across stakeholders to deliver impact to the client engineering community.
• Foster relationships with partner teams and stakeholders.
• Collaborate with other platform teams on shared projects and principles.
• Coach and mentor the team with empathy.
• Partner with Staff engineers to align architecture trade-offs and design strategy.
• Contribute to broader organizational culture and processes.

Requirements

• 9+ years overall engineering experience with 3-5+ years as a full-time manager.
• BS or MS in Computer Science or related field.
• Experience working on a client platform (Android, iOS, or Web).
• Familiarity or interest in GraphQL and client performance.
• Experience and desire to act as the team’s product manager.
• Ability to work with senior leadership in setting 12+ month strategic direction.
• Experience supporting and coaching multiple Staff+ and Senior engineers.
• Experience managing a remote/distributed team.
• Experience working on or leading an Infrastructure or Platform team supporting a medium to large engineering organization.

Location

This position is US - Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed with the manager. Candidates must live in a US state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity.

Compensation

Base pay range: $204,000 — $255,000 USD. Eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.
