At Coinbase we are building the emerging onchain platform and the future global financial system. The Risk Analytics team is establishing an Account Security function to safeguard users and platform integrity. This role reports to the Director, Risk Analytics and Operations and is based remotely in the United States. The ideal candidate is a strategic, data-driven leader with a builder’s mindset at the intersection of traditional risk and the cryptoeconomy.

Responsibilities

  • Build and lead the Account Security function, establishing defenses to protect users and prevent account takeover (ATO).
  • Lead and mentor a growing team of analysts; balance people leadership with hands-on technical contribution.
  • Write complex SQL queries and guide technical investigations into fraud and account security issues.
  • Define core risk metrics and build reporting frameworks to monitor security posture and identify gaps.
  • Translate data findings into clear narratives that influence senior risk, product, and engineering decisions.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, and Data Science to deliver high-impact security and trust solutions.
  • Develop secure user experiences that maintain trust while enabling quick access and recovery for legitimate users.
  • Lead incident response efforts during significant fraud events and manage post-mortem initiatives.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of hands-on risk experience in e-commerce or financial services.
  • 4+ years directly combating account takeover (ATO) and scams in Fraud, Trust & Safety, Risk, or Account Security roles.
  • 2+ years of people management or leading analysts/tech leads while remaining hands-on with SQL and Python.
  • Professional experience using SQL and Python; comfortable writing complex analytical queries.
  • Proficiency with business intelligence and data visualization tools (examples: Tableau, Looker, Superset).
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills; able to turn data into actionable insights for stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proven ability to independently scope and deliver analytics projects while collaborating with Product, Data Science, and Engineering.
  • Understanding of blockchain analytics and/or fraud trends within the cryptocurrency ecosystem.
  • BA/BS degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Math, Stats, Physics, Computer Science) or equivalent practical experience.
  • Demonstrates Coinbase cultural values: clarity, positive energy, continuous learning, and efficient execution.

  • Experience with Databricks.

Work arrangement

  • Remote in the United States (remote-first; in-person participation is required throughout the year for team/company events and offsites).

Compensation & Job Info

  • Pay Range (target annual salary): $193,270 β€” $228,200 USD. Full-time offers may include bonus eligibility, equity eligibility, and benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401(k)).
