You are situated at the heart of Eneco, working between production, sales, and trading to help navigate volatility, risk and opportunity in the evolving carbon market. As a Carbon Trading Analyst you will support trading activities with advanced market insights, models and tools to enable data-driven decisions in a fast-moving and highly strategic environment.
Responsibilities
- Trading support & strategy development
- Work closely with carbon traders to generate and evaluate trade ideas.
- Provide pre-trade analysis, scenario modelling, and price forecasts.
- Identify opportunities across compliance markets and related markets (power, gas, fuels).
- Market intelligence & policy analysis
- Monitor and analyse carbon markets (EU ETS, UK ETS, CBAM).
- Stay abreast of regulatory and policy developments (e.g. Fit for 55, MSR) and assess their impact on fundamentals and pricing.
- Follow macroeconomic trends and their effect on carbon markets.
- Modelling & analytical tools
- Develop and maintain trading tools based on fundamentals and/or technical analysis.
- Maintain and improve carbon market models (supply–demand, TNAC/MSR).
- Analyse auction results, emissions data, and market trends.
Requirements
- Master’s or PhD in a quantitative discipline.
- For Medior: at least 3 years of experience in carbon market analysis in a trading environment, energy company, hedge fund or market research company.
- For Senior: at least 7 years of experience in carbon market analysis in a trading environment, energy company, hedge fund or market research company.
- Familiarity with European EUA/UKA fundamentals and modelling approaches.
- Solid Python programming skills and experience working with data (SQL, APIs, etc.).
- Pragmatic, hands-on approach and a drive to improve models and processes.
- Ability to stay focused in a fast-moving environment where priorities shift with the market.
- Experience in power, gas or broader energy markets is welcome.
Where you’ll work
You’ll join the Trading Analysis Team, a front-desk analytical team working alongside traders on the trading desk (carbon, gas and power) using both physical and financial instruments. Primary focus is on European exchange-traded carbon markets (EUA, UKA), with close collaboration with colleagues covering power and gas. The environment is international, high-paced and collaborative.
Employment details & benefits
- Gross annual salary between €86,000 and €145,000 (including FlexBudget and 8% holiday allowance; depending on role a bonus or collective profit sharing may apply).
- Working hours: 36–40 hours per week.
- Hybrid working: work 40% at the office, 40% from home, and 20% flexibly. With manager approval you may work abroad (within approved countries) up to 3 weeks/year, max 2 consecutively.
