ING Americas' Wholesale Banking division seeks a Model Risk Management Lead / Director to establish and run the Model Risk function in New York. The role is part of Model Risk Management (MoRM) within the CRO US domain and is responsible for implementing ING's global Model Risk Management framework and tooling for all models used within ING Americas. The Model Risk Lead reports functionally to the Global Head of Model Risk Management and hierarchically to the CRO Americas and will engage with business units, risk functions, and other stakeholders across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Set up the Model Risk function in New York and ensure compliance with US (Federal Reserve) and EU (ECB) regulations.
  • Manage a limited team of qualified experts; build and develop an effective, multicultural team.
  • Act as an independent, proactive, strategic partner on ING's model landscape and drive long-term cross-border vision, strategy, and policies for Model Risk Oversight.
  • Contribute to the overarching strategy of the MoRM domain and translate strategy into the local Model Risk agenda for ING US.
  • Partner with business and risk functions to ensure sufficient 1st Model Line of Defense controls throughout the model life cycle.
  • Execute effective 2nd Model Line of Defense activities and ensure risk-based local implementation of the global model risk management framework.
  • Maintain ING Americas' model inventory in the model risk management tooling (iModel).
  • Keep abreast of external developments, best practices, and regulations and translate them into tangible actions.
  • Participate in and present model risk matters in relevant ING model committees.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Significant experience in first and/or second line model risk management.
  • 7+ years of experience as a people manager with proven capabilities in building teams, driving engagement, and developing people in a regulatory environment.
  • Successful track record managing relationships with US regulators, supervisors, auditors, and industry associations.
  • Well structured, autonomous, highly adaptive, and a team player.
  • Academic degree.
  • Ability to handle conflict management and be decisive in promoting a strong model risk culture.
  • High level of self-awareness.
  • Strong process and change management skills.
  • Fluent in English (verbal and written).
  • Ability to present complex content in an easy and transparent way to senior management.

Work Model and Location

  • Role based in New York with ING Americas following a hybrid work model (in-office / work from home flexibility). Hybrid arrangements vary by business area.

  • Salary range: $216,000 - $273,000 per year.
