Role overview
Anthropic is seeking a National Security Lead to guide strategic engagements with European national security and intelligence communities. This senior role will shape Anthropic's approach to national security policy and partnerships in Europe, act as the day-to-day point of contact with European national security partners, and translate technology and policy developments within Anthropic for national security stakeholders. The role is based in London and will require travel across Europe and to the United States. You will also work closely with the EMEA public sector sales team to support deployments of Claude in high-leverage government use cases.
Responsibilities
- Lead policy engagement with European national security partners on government use and national security implications of frontier models
- Engage key national security policy stakeholders via briefings, consultations, demos, and roundtables in coordination with the wider national security and EMEA policy teams
- Partner with the EMEA public sector sales team to support commercial efforts involving government agency deployments
- Support and promote public-private research collaborations
- Build a coalition of government agencies, nonprofits, safety institutes, and academics in Europe to share knowledge around national security issues
- Collaborate with technical teams to translate Anthropic threat model research into concrete policy proposals, stakeholder education, and thought leadership opportunities
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience working in national security agencies, or a combination of government and related private sector experience
- High agency; able to develop and execute strategy independently while coordinating dependencies across cross-functional teams (policy, go-to-market, trust and safety, legal, product, research, comms, marketing)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly when briefing policymakers and government officials
- Demonstrated interest and experience in a complicated technical subject (ideally AI; other examples listed include quantum computing, cryptography, fusion power)
- Some legal training in or exposure to contract negotiations
- Willingness and ability to participate in a process to obtain/retain Developed Vetting clearance in the UK
- Education: at least a Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience
Compensation
- Annual base salary: £185,000 - £185,000 GBP
- Total compensation package for full-time employees includes equity, benefits, and may include incentive compensation
Logistics & Other Details
- Location: role based in London, UK
- Location-based hybrid policy: currently expected to be in one of Anthropic's offices at least 25% of the time
- Visa sponsorship: Anthropic may sponsor visas and retains an immigration lawyer to support successful offers, though sponsorship is not guaranteed for every role/candidate
- Travel: this role will require travel in Europe and to the United States
