Oracle Database Administrator - Contractor

ING Americas is seeking an Oracle Database Administrator contractor to join the Infra Platform team and provide guidance and support to stream-aligned teams on deploying and maintaining ING US cloud server estate databases. The role includes understanding application databases, troubleshooting and fixing issues, participating in incident response and remediation, advising and verifying security patch deployments, and demonstrating compliance with applicable controls. The team follows a hybrid work model (in-office / work from home flexibility) and operates within a 24x7 production environment with some on-call/off-hours support required.

Responsibilities

• Architect and implement database solutions to ensure availability, scalability, performance, recoverability, and security.
• Ensure proper allocation of hardware resources to databases, maintain resilience, and optimize performance tuning.
• Proactively monitor database systems to ensure secure services with minimal downtime.
• Provide metrics, trend analysis, and recommendations to management for resource decisions.
• Troubleshoot and resolve SQL development issues.
• Implement and release database changes according to agreed timelines and costs.
• Develop, implement, and follow standard operational procedures to provide standardization and stability.
• Assist developers with stored procedure troubleshooting and performance improvement.
• Participate in resolution and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) of outages or SLA-impacting issues.
• Perform routine operational maintenance including installations, upgrades, patching, monitoring, auditing, and issue resolution.
• Operate and support a 24x7 production environment; participate in on-call rotations and DR exercises.
• Participate in incidents to ensure timely resolution.

Requirements / Qualifications

• Bachelor and/or Master diploma in Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
• Proven expertise in Oracle databases in a multi-tenant environment.
• Proven expertise in Microsoft SQL Server, including SQL Always On.
• Experience in SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services) is a plus.
• Strong knowledge of controls and security; experience verifying compliance with applicable controls.
• Experience with Microsoft Azure CI/CD pipeline and PowerShell scripting.
• Ability to navigate a virtual team environment and interface with international stakeholders.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
• Strong organizational sensitivity and the ability to understand cross-border organizational dynamics.
• Continuous improvement mindset; passionate about innovation and new technologies.

Compensation

• Hourly Rate: $68 - $87 / hr
