Payments Risk Intern

At Coinbase, our mission is to increase economic freedom in the world. This is a 12-week internship during summer 2026 on the Payments Risk Management team supporting fraud prevention on payment rails. Many Coinbase roles are remote-first but not remote-only; in-person participation is required throughout the year (team and company offsites held multiple times annually).

Responsibilities

• Work with internal stakeholders in Product, Data Science, and Engineering to develop and drive forward custom risk management strategies.
• Write SQL and build dashboards to detect anomalous behavior, analyze risk trends, and support monitoring.
• Synthesize data learnings into compelling stories and communicate findings to Payments Risk leadership.
• Partner with consumer product teams to improve the user journey without introducing incremental risk.
• Proactively identify rules and controls that are ineffective or have high false positives.
• Partner with Customer Experience and Risk Analytics teams to implement learnings.
• Document and improve processes and procedures.

Requirements

• Some proficiency (~1 year) writing SQL.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent analytical and investigative skills; strong curiosity to uncover trends.
• Excellent time management and prioritization; ability to operate in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Nice to haves

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree or above (preferably with a background in technology or finance).
• Some proficiency (1+ years) in dashboarding tools (Tableau, Looker, etc.) preferred but not required.
• Basic knowledge of the crypto economy, or a desire to learn.
