Essent is looking for an Observability / Platform Engineer to design, implement and maintain scalable observability pipelines and reusable platform assets that enable teams to integrate with a central monitoring platform.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement observability ingestion pipelines for logs, metrics and traces from multiple AWS accounts into a central New Relic platform.
  • Develop modular, reusable and generic Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) modules (OpenTofu/Terraform) to automate observability infrastructure deployment across AWS environments.
  • Build and maintain data processors (primarily in Python) to transform, filter and enrich telemetry data, including calculation of DORA metrics.
  • Engineer secure cross-account integrations and data flows from feature teams' AWS accounts to central monitoring infrastructure.
  • Create standardized building blocks and reusable assets to make it easy for development teams to integrate applications with the observability platform.
  • Maintain, monitor and continuously improve platform reliability, performance, security and cost efficiency.
  • Advocate and implement observability best practices (monitoring, logging, tracing) and document approaches in the developer portal.

Requirements

  • Excellent command of English (oral and written).
  • Proven experience in system design for complex, distributed cloud environments.
  • Strong proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (IaC), particularly OpenTofu (Terraform), to build modular and generic solutions.
  • Solid experience developing data processors and automation scripts in Python.
  • In-depth knowledge of AWS data pipeline components such as CloudWatch, OpenTelemetry, Kinesis (Firehose/Streams) and Lambda.
  • Experience with OpenTelemetry concepts and tools, including the OpenTelemetry Collector.
  • Experience with GitLab CI/CD pipelines for automated builds and deployments.
  • Familiarity with New Relic or comparable observability platforms (e.g., Splunk).
  • Strong DevOps mentality: ownership mindset and continuous improvement.
  • Adaptability to change and emerging technologies.

Benefits

  • A gross monthly salary between €4.968 and €7.054 (see advert for exact range), plus a 10% annual bonus.
  • 30 days holiday and 8% holiday pay.
  • Hybrid working model (opportunity to work within a hybrid model and discussions about workation).
  • Discount on energy products and partner services; NS Business Card for commuting or mileage allowance.
  • Attractive head office within walking distance of Central Station Den Bosch (’s-Hertogenbosch) with on-site amenities.
  • Development and personal growth opportunities, including a yearly personal development budget of €500 and paid job-related training; international opportunities within the E.ON Group.
  • Inclusive environment where Essent values who you are and what you can do.
