Responsibilities

As a Database Administrator, your role involves ensuring availability and performance of Clearing databases. You will manage production, non-production, and disaster recovery environments, work closely with support teams to optimize hardware resources, perform proactive monitoring, minimize downtime, and conduct capacity planning through trend analysis. You will oversee enhancements, maintenance, and upgrades to the database environment, collaborate across business, architecture, development, and technical teams, and act as a contact for escalations and issue resolution. Developing automation to reduce manual tasks and investigating performance optimizations are key tasks. Additionally, you will maintain system documentation, enforce change control processes, develop runbooks for High Availability and Disaster Recovery, provide database expertise to development teams, and stay current with emerging technologies.

Working Environment

You will work within the DB Services team supporting clearing systems, managing databases using Oracle, PostgreSQL, and MS-SQL technologies. The role covers administration, configuration, installation, maintenance, tuning, and support of these database environments, joining a team of DBAs specializing in Oracle, Postgres, and SQL Server. ABN AMRO Clearing handles about 20 million transactions daily, acting as an intermediary between clients and exchanges. The environment is international, fast-paced, technology driven, and encourages continuous learning.

Requirements

• Expert knowledge of Postgres Enterprise and/or Community editions.
• Experience with Red Hat Cluster and PostgreSQL logical and physical replication across sites.
• Skills in Postgres installation, patching, upgrades (preferably automated).
• Capacity planning and automation experience.
• Experience in installing, configuring, and maintaining global monitoring solutions.
• Knowledge of Postgres Partitioning and Foreign Data Wrappers is advantageous.
• Strong skills in performance tuning, troubleshooting, backup, and recovery.
• Linux/Network expertise, including cluster file systems (ACFS/NFS/GPFS), firewall, network protocols, routing.
• Ability to diagnose OS-level issues in Linux; familiarity with bash/awk/sed and other scripting tools.
• Experience with Oracle Engineered Systems (Exadata, ODA), OEM administration, patching, upgrades, and migrations.
• Strong automation and SQL skills are highly desirable.
