About the Role
We are looking for a Pricing Strategist to shape how we price and monetize OpenAI’s API platform. You will own the end-to-end pricing strategy across model launches, price architecture, packaging, commitments and discounts, and monetization guardrails. You will work closely with senior leaders across Product, Engineering, Data Science, GTM, and Finance to define pricing approaches, improve commercial decision-making, and bring more rigor to how we monetize our API offerings. This role reports to the Head of Product Pricing for API & Platform.
Responsibilities
- Develop the end-to-end pricing strategy for the API platform, including model launch pricing, price architecture, packaging, discount logic, and monetization guardrails.
- Recommend pricing for new models, capabilities, and platform offerings, and develop innovative commercial constructs to better serve API customers.
- Partner with Product, Engineering, Data Science, Finance, and GTM leaders to ensure pricing aligns with product value, roadmap, commercial motions, and growth plans.
- Develop clear recommendations grounded in customer preferences, product value, and market dynamics.
- Establish lightweight but effective pricing governance, including decision frameworks, approval processes, and performance tracking.
Requirements
- 6+ years of relevant experience in pricing, monetization, product strategy, business operations, consulting, or a related field.
- 3+ years of direct experience in pricing and monetization.
- Strong track record of developing and shipping successful pricing and monetization strategies across both self-serve and sales-led motions.
- Deep familiarity with consumption-based pricing and monetization of APIs, infrastructure, developer-platforms, or other usage-driven products.
- Ability to build rigorous analytical and financial models and translate technical cost, usage, and customer data into clear recommendations.
- Capacity to balance customer value, product strategy, technical economics, and commercial outcomes thoughtfully.
- Comfortable influencing senior cross-functional stakeholders and navigating ambiguous, high-stakes decisions.
- Self-starter mentality, quick learner of technical concepts, and ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-ambiguity environment.
Benefits
- Base salary range listed for the role, plus equity and potential performance-related bonus(es).
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance with employer contributions to Health Savings Accounts.
- Pre-tax accounts for Health FSA, Dependent Care FSA, and commuter expenses.

- Paid time off: flexible PTO for exempt employees and up to 15 days annually for non-exempt employees.
- 13+ paid company holidays and multiple coordinated company office closures, plus paid sick or safe time as required by law.
- Mental health and wellness support; employer-paid basic life and disability coverage.
- Annual learning and development stipend.
- Daily meals in offices and meal delivery credits as eligible.
- Relocation support for eligible employees.
