About the role

We are hiring a Growth Product Designer to help shape how millions of people discover and get value from ChatGPT. You will design experiences that drive adoption, engagement, retention, and upgrades—balancing user needs with business goals. This role sits at the intersection of product design, experimentation, and storytelling.

This role is based in our San Francisco HQ. We offer relocation assistance to new employees.

Responsibilities

• Design end-to-end experiences that help people understand, trust, and return to ChatGPT.
• Collaborate with product, engineering, and content design to run experiments and ship high-impact improvements.
• Translate complex AI capabilities into clear, intuitive interfaces that lower barriers to entry.
• Use data and research to guide decisions while knowing when to trust your instincts.
• Contribute to the evolution of OpenAI’s design systems and voice.
• Help establish design culture and grow the design team.

Requirements / Who you are

• Strong portfolio demonstrating thoughtful product design, with experience in growth, onboarding, or consumer-facing products.
• Comfortable working in fast cycles—sketching, prototyping, and testing ideas quickly.
• Able to balance qualitative insights with quantitative data.
• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
• Genuine curiosity about AI and how it can shape new user behaviors.

• Base salary range listed: $245,000 – $310,000; total compensation may include equity and performance-related bonuses.
