Details
Safety Systems manages the complete lifecycle of safety efforts for OpenAI’s frontier models, ensuring models are deployed responsibly and have a positive impact on society. The Safety Measurement Product Manager owns OpenAI's approach to measuring harm and safeguard efficacy in production, driving strategy for the suite of safety measurement platforms and products used across the company. This role partners closely with safety research and engineering teams to determine what, where, and how to measure safety, feeds insights into leadership decisions and safety work, and represents the company's topline safety metric.
Responsibilities
- Partner closely with data science, research, engineering, policy teams, and other stakeholders to craft a vision for understanding safety outcomes and prevalence on OpenAI’s platforms.
- Define strategic priorities and product roadmaps focused on improving safety measurement approaches and scaling the measurement platform to more use cases, products, and cross-functional needs.
- Establish repeatable processes to integrate cutting-edge AI safety research into OpenAI’s safety measurement products.
- Develop and continuously refine clear, actionable success criteria that capture the ambitions for safety measurement.
- Represent quantitative progress on safety to senior leadership and prioritize incoming requests from partner teams.
Requirements
- 6+ years of product management or related industry experience, with specific expertise in AI safety, trust & safety, integrity, or related domains.
- Background in data science, statistics, economics, or related fields.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills; experience driving consensus and action in ambiguous spaces.
- Ability to identify and challenge underlying assumptions through insightful questioning and to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and persuasively.
- Intellectual curiosity in interdisciplinary fields such as human-computer interaction, psychology, philosophy, or similar areas.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
