Details

The B2B Marketing team contributes to OpenAI’s broader mission of ensuring responsible and widespread adoption of artificial intelligence. The team develops and executes strategies that drive awareness, engagement, and usage for OpenAI’s products and platform. They take a data-driven approach to understand customers' needs and challenges and partner closely with Product, Engineering, Growth, Sales, Research, Comms, and Design teams to create a cohesive customer experience across channels.

About the Role

We’re looking for a highly technical Product Marketing Manager to help drive adoption and growth of Codex. This role requires deep familiarity with developer tools, coding workflows, and modern AI-assisted development environments. You will translate technical innovation into clear value for developers, shape Codex positioning in the AI coding landscape, and drive programs to expand adoption and usage across the developer ecosystem. This is a highly cross-functional role that blends traditional product marketing responsibilities with developer ecosystem fluency and growth thinking. You will work closely with Product, Developer Experience, Sales (including Solutions Engineering), and Growth teams to launch new capabilities, enable go-to-market teams, and ensure Codex resonates with developers building software.

Responsibilities

  • Lead product launches for Codex and its underlying models: build launch strategies, develop messaging and positioning, shape announcement moments, write launch blogs and technical content, and coordinate cross-functional launch planning and execution.
  • Develop compelling messaging and competitive positioning that differentiates Codex in the AI coding ecosystem (mentions competitors/tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, and other developer platforms).
  • Drive developer adoption and product growth by partnering with Growth and Design to design campaigns that increase awareness, acquisition, and ongoing usage.
  • Create developer-focused content and narratives: produce blogs, technical explainers, launch posts, demos, landing pages, and social content in collaboration with Developer Experience and Engineering teams.
  • Enable Sales and GTM teams: develop technical narratives, sales materials, and enablement assets to help Sales and Solutions Engineering position Codex within real developer workflows and communicate value to technical and executive stakeholders across startups to enterprises.
  • Develop a deep understanding of developer workflows through research, customer conversations, Gong calls, and market analysis to understand how developers discover, evaluate, and use coding tools.
  • Bring developer insights back to Product and Engineering: translate market signals and user feedback into product insights that help shape roadmap decisions and product strategy.
  • Measure launch and campaign impact: track adoption, usage, and developer engagement metrics post-launch to refine positioning, campaigns, and product messaging.

Requirements

  • 14+ years of experience in technical product marketing or developer marketing for developer tools, infrastructure products, or technical platforms.
  • Firsthand familiarity with developer tooling and workflows and the ability to engage credibly with engineers on topics such as coding environments, developer platforms, and AI-assisted software development.
  • Experience leading complex product launches involving multiple cross-functional teams.
  • Strong understanding of how developers discover, evaluate, and adopt new tools; deeply plugged into the developer ecosystem and actively following the evolution of AI coding tools (Codex, Claude Code, Cursor, etc.).
  • Strong writing and storytelling skills; enjoyment creating technical content for developers.
  • Proven ability to work effectively across Product, Developer Experience, Sales, Growth, and Marketing teams in fast-moving environments.
  • An engineering background or degree is a plus but not required.

Workplace & Location

This role is based in San Francisco, CA, with a hybrid schedule of three days per week in the office.

Benefits

  • Base pay range listed in the posting and additional total compensation components (equity, performance-related bonuses) are offered.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance with employer contributions to Health Savings Accounts.
  • Pre-tax accounts for Health FSA, Dependent Care FSA, and commuter expenses.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with employer match.
  • Paid parental leave (up to 24 weeks for birth parents and 20 weeks for non-birthing parents), plus paid medical and caregiver leave.
  • Paid time off: flexible PTO for exempt employees and up to 15 days annually for non-exempt employees.
  • 13+ paid company holidays and coordinated office closures, plus paid sick or safe time as required by law.
  • Mental health and wellness support; employer-paid basic life and disability coverage.
  • Annual learning and development stipend; daily meals in offices and meal delivery credits as eligible.
  • Relocation support for eligible employees.
  • Additional taxable fringe benefits (charitable donation matching, wellness stipends) may be provided.
