Details

The OpenAI developer platform enables organizations of all sizes — from startups to enterprises — to power their products and experiences with AI. As a member of the Platform Product Marketing team, you will be responsible for developing marketing strategies that drive adoption of OpenAI’s APIs, developer tools, and models among developers and businesses. This includes making sure we are building and launching the right products for our customers, deeply understanding our customers and the competitive landscape, thinking strategically about how we bring new products to market, leading cross-functional teams in launch planning, and tracking post-launch metrics and customer feedback.

Role overview

As a Product Marketing Manager, Developer Platform, you will define and execute go-to-market strategies that accelerate adoption of OpenAI’s developer platform across developers and technical decision makers. You will partner closely with Product, Engineering, GTM, and Developer Experience teams to craft compelling narratives, plan high-impact launches, and drive sustained growth across OpenAI’s API offerings.

This role is based in San Francisco, CA. The team uses a hybrid work model (three days in the office per week). Relocation assistance is offered to new employees.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a business owner by partnering with Product, GTM, Developer Experience, and Data Science teams to track usage and revenue, identify business challenges, and design strategies to drive growth.
  • Lead go-to-market planning and execution for new API products and features — defining positioning, messaging, and integrated marketing plans for developer and technical decision-maker audiences.
  • Deeply understand products, customers, and the competitive landscape to inform product direction and GTM priorities.
  • Create enablement materials and product training to equip GTM teams to communicate value and drive adoption.
  • Drive post-launch growth through marketing experiments, adoption campaigns, and retention strategies to translate launches into long-term business impact.

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Experience in product marketing for API platforms targeting developers and technical decision makers across startups to enterprises.
  • Ability to translate complex technical products into clear, compelling narratives for technical audiences.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills to align Product, Engineering, and GTM teams.
  • Knowledge of the AI industry and developer needs for APIs and AI models.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment and motivation to bring new technology to market.
