You will join the hardware team to support novel application areas and AI modes beyond current use cases. The role involves researching the evolving landscape of AI applications and models, analyzing underlying model architectures, building implementations on Groq, analyzing mappings to existing and future hardware, modeling performance, and working cross-functionally with hardware design on novel hardware features (functional units, numeric modes, interconnect, system integration) to unlock novel application areas. Opportunities exist to participate in wider R&D activities internally or with Groq partners.
Responsibilities
- Research AI applications and model architectures, including LLMs and other generative AI uses.
- Build and prototype model implementations on Groq hardware/platforms.
- Analyze mappings of models to current and next-generation hardware and model performance implications.
- Develop and apply performance modeling and performance analysis techniques.
- Work cross-functionally with hardware and software teams to influence next-generation hardware architecture and features.
- Support internal and external R&D collaborations and technical engagements.
Requirements
- Strong foundation in computer science.
- Experience with AI models and applications; knowledge of LLMs and generative AI.
- Strong foundation in computer architecture and computer arithmetic.
- Proficiency in Python and familiarity with common ML frameworks such as PyTorch and TensorFlow.
- Experience with performance analysis and performance modeling.
- Problem-solving mindset and ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-moving R&D environment.
Nice to Have
- Experience with scientific computing and high-performance computing (HPC).
- Experience optimizing applications on specialized accelerators (GPU, FPGA, or other custom accelerators).
- Experience with compiler tools and MLIR.
- Experience delivering complex projects in a fast-moving environment.
Compensation & Benefits
- Base pay range for this role: £64,800 - £128,400 per year (final compensation depends on location, skills, qualifications, experience, and internal benchmarks; compensation for candidates outside the USA will be dependent on the local market).
