The Perplexity Research Residency is the flagship program for enabling exceptional research talent across disciplines to shape the future of AI. The program creates pathways for researchers, engineers, and analysts from fields beyond traditional AI research to contribute meaningfully to AI research and its impact on users. Candidates from diverse backgrounds — including theoretical physics, cognitive science, biochemistry, quantitative fields, mathematics, philosophy, and other exceptional research disciplines — are encouraged to apply. The cash compensation for this role is $220,000 per year, prorated to a six-month term.

Responsibilities

• Participate in the Perplexity Research Residency to contribute research expertise toward the development and evaluation of AI systems and products.
• Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams (researchers, engineers, analysts) to shape the future of AI and its impact on users.

Requirements

• Demonstrated research background in a discipline beyond or adjacent to traditional AI (examples called out: theoretical physics, cognitive science, biochemistry, quantitative fields, mathematics, philosophy).
• Strong interest in applying domain research skills to AI problems and product impact.
