The Perplexity Research Residency is a flagship program that enables top research talent across many disciplines to shape the future of AI. The program creates pathways for exceptional researchers, engineers, and analysts from fields beyond traditional AI research to contribute meaningfully to AI research and its impact on users. Examples of encouraged backgrounds include theoretical physics, cognitive science, biochemistry, quantitative fields, mathematics, and philosophy. The cash compensation for this role is $220,000 per year, prorated to a six-month term.

Location: San Francisco or Palo Alto, California

Responsibilities

• Contribute to AI research and projects within the Perplexity Research Residency program.
• Collaborate with cross-disciplinary researchers, engineers, and analysts to shape research directions and impact on users.
• Engage with the residency community and participate in program activities and research outputs.

Requirements

• Exceptional research ability or strong experience as an engineer or analyst; individuals from non-traditional AI backgrounds (e.g., theoretical physics, cognitive science, biochemistry, quantitative analysis, mathematics, philosophy) are encouraged to apply.
• Interest in contributing to AI research and collaborating across disciplines.
