Details

NVIDIA is seeking a Research Scientist in NLP and deep learning research to contribute to the LLM Research team. The role focuses on fundamental research that advances both scientific knowledge and practical capabilities of language and multimodal models, with interest in architectures, distillation, inference algorithms, factuality, reasoning, long-context handling, agentic capabilities, and AI safety.

Responsibilities

  • Research and propose alternative model architectures to improve performance and efficiency of language or multimodal models.
  • Investigate novel methods for knowledge distillation and data synthesis for language or multimodal models.
  • Explore and develop novel test-time inference algorithms.
  • Analyze methods for enhancing factuality, reasoning, long-context understanding, or agentic capabilities of language or multimodal models.
  • Undertake research, design, and implementation of novel methods aimed at enhancing capabilities of large and small language models.
  • Publish original research findings in top-tier conferences and journals.
  • Collaborate closely with team members and interdisciplinary groups to foster a collaborative research environment.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to interns and students within the research team.
  • Collaborate with product groups to facilitate technology transfer of research into practical applications.

Requirements

  • Completing or recently completed PhD in Computer Science or equivalent research experience in research labs with a strong publication record at top-tier conferences.
  • Strong foundation in the theory and practice of NLP and deep learning.
  • Proficiency across aspects of large language models (training, alignment, inference, evaluation) is expected; alternatively, proficiency across large multimodal models or diffusion models is expected.
  • Experience or demonstrated track record of outstanding research achievements and contributions.
  • Excellent communication skills to convey research findings and collaborate effectively with peers.

Benefits and Other Details

  • Base salary range: 160,000 USD - 258,750 USD (determined by location, experience, and comparable employees).
  • Eligible for equity and company benefits.
  • Applications accepted at least until November 29, 2025.
