The Analytics Engineering team bridges data engineering, data science, and business analytics by building scalable, impactful data solutions: robust pipelines, well-designed data models, and tools that enable stakeholders to make data-driven decisions. The team prioritizes data quality, reliability, and usability.

While many roles at Coinbase are remote-first, we are not remote-only. In-person participation is required throughout the year. Team and company-wide offsites are held multiple times annually; attendance is expected and fully supported.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain foundational data models that serve as single sources of truth for analytics across the organization.
  • Translate business requirements into scalable data models, dashboards, and tools that deliver commercial value.
  • Build, maintain, and optimize ETL/ELT pipelines and data products to maximize efficiency and data quality.
  • Partner cross-functionally with engineering, data science, product, and business teams to align priorities and data solutions.
  • Quickly build subject-matter expertise in specific business areas and own end-to-end data flows (creation, ingestion, transformation, delivery).
  • Diagnose and fix issues anywhere in the stack; communicate with engineering teams to resolve data gaps for downstream users.
  • Create abstractions and frameworks (UDFs, Python packages, internal data app frameworks, dashboards) to support scalable data workflows.
  • Use established tools with mastery (e.g., SQL, Google Sheets) to deliver rapid impact when needed.

Requirements

  • Data modeling expertise: strong understanding of best practices for designing modular and reusable data models (star schemas, snowflake schemas).
  • Prompt design and engineering for LLMs (e.g., GPT): expertise in creating, refining, and optimizing prompts for internal tools and use cases.
  • Advanced SQL: proficiency in advanced SQL techniques for transformation, querying, and optimization.
  • Intermediate to advanced Python: scripting, automation, OOP, and building scalable frameworks.
  • Data pipeline development: experience building, maintaining, and optimizing ETL/ELT pipelines using tools like dbt, Airflow, or similar.
  • Data visualization: proficiency building polished dashboards with Looker, Tableau, Superset, or Python libraries (Matplotlib, Plotly).
  • Development tools: familiarity with version control (GitHub), CI/CD, and modern development workflows.
  • Data architecture: knowledge of modern data lake/warehouse architectures (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks) and transformation frameworks.
  • Business acumen and strong collaboration/communication skills to translate technical concepts into business value.
  • Familiarity with statistics and probability.
  • Bonus: experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP) and container/orchestration tooling such as Docker or Kubernetes.
