While many roles at Coinbase are remote-first, we are not remote-only. In-person participation is required throughout the year. Team and company-wide offsites are held multiple times annually to foster collaboration, connection, and alignment. Attendance is expected and fully supported.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain foundational, trusted data models (single source of truth) and pipelines that serve analytics across the organization.
• Translate business requirements into scalable data models, dashboards, and tools that deliver commercial value.
• Build subject-matter expertise in specific business areas and understand end-to-end data flows (creation, ingestion, transformation, delivery).
• Interface with stakeholders (engineering, product, data science, business) to deliver insights, fix data gaps, and prioritize impactful work.
• Build frameworks, tools, and workflows (UDFs, Python packages, data apps) to maximize efficiency and long-term maintainability for data users.
• Implement outcome-focused solutions using a variety of frameworks and paradigms; balance speed and maintainability.
• Take accountability for data quality, reliability, and performance across the stack.

Requirements

• Strong data modeling expertise (best practices for modular and reusable data models; star and snowflake schemas).
• Expertise in prompt design and engineering for LLMs (e.g., GPT), including creating, refining, and optimizing prompts for internal tools and use cases.
• Advanced SQL proficiency for transformation, querying, and optimization.
• Intermediate to advanced Python (scripting, automation, OOP, building scalable frameworks).
• Experience building, maintaining, and optimizing ETL/ELT pipelines using modern tools like dbt, Airflow, or similar.
• Proficiency building polished dashboards and visualizations using tools like Looker, Tableau, Superset, or Python libraries (Matplotlib, Plotly).
• Familiarity with version control (GitHub), CI/CD, and modern development workflows.
• Knowledge of modern data lake/warehouse architectures (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks) and transformation frameworks.
• Familiarity with statistics and probability; strong business acumen and ability to translate technical concepts into business value.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills; proven ability to manage projects and work cross-functionally.

Bonus skills:

• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP).
• Familiarity with Docker or Kubernetes.

Compensation and Logistics

• Pay Range: $180,000—$212,000 USD (target annual salary; full-time offers include bonus eligibility and benefits).
