Information about the position

We're searching for a Senior Backend Engineer to join one of our engineering teams in the Buyer Domain, which is responsible for the end-to-end journey of Vinted members looking for their next find. Our domain’s goal is to make the discovery process as intuitive as possible, spanning everything from personalised homepage recommendations and sophisticated search retrieval to the infrastructure that scales our massive product catalogue.

You will join a cross-functional team that already includes Frontend engineers, QA, several Backend engineers, as well as Data, Design and Product. While you will contribute to our core services, this role will be specifically focused on the discovery and implementation of AI features from a backend perspective. You will be responsible for designing the service that allows AI features to interact with our infrastructure, ensuring they are scalable, observable, and deliver meaningful value to our members. Your role involves navigating the technical challenges of this new area and collaborating closely with the Product and Data, as well as with other Backend engineers within the team and across the domain.

In this position, you’ll

• Lead the Backend discovery and implementation of AI-driven features, building the robust service layer to interact with Vinted’s infrastructure.
• Actively contribute to our architectural transition, moving ownership from our core Ruby monolith towards high-performance services written in Go.
• Collaborate within a cross-functional team to bridge the gap between Backend and Frontend, while partnering closely with Data and Product to ensure our technical solutions meet member needs.
• Take ownership of the service lifecycle, ensuring that new AI integrations are performant, observable, and meet our high-traffic scaling requirements.
• Work with other Backend engineers in the team to ensure architectural consistency and maintain our high standards of code quality.
• Mentor peer engineers and share knowledge.
• Collaborate with other developers through GitHub pull requests and code reviews to ensure high-quality, maintainable code.
• Work with a diverse and modern stack: Golang, Ruby on Rails, MySQL, Vitess, Memcached, Elasticsearch, Java, Scala, Rust, and Apache Flink for streaming ap
• Participate in on-call rotations to ensure the stability of the platform for our 80+ million users.

About you

• You have solid experience designing, building, and operating backend services in a high-growth production environment.
• You are familiar and have experience in Go, this is a significant advantage for this role.
• Experience with integrating AI models (external API-based or in-house LLMs) in production or MLOps experience is a strong plus.
• Advantage: Knowledge of Python, particularly for AI/ML integration and discovery work.
• You are excited by "discovery" work, moving from an abstract concept to a concrete, scalable backend implementation.
• You are capable of working in a team as well as independently, taking the lead in addressing issues and driving improvements, even without explicit direction.
• You are willing to learn and master new technologies and concepts.
• You are comfortable working with complex data pipelines and asynchronous communication (e.g. Kafka).
• You are a pragmatic, product-minded engineer who values clean code and sustainable architecture.
• You are an effective communicator, able to discuss technical trade-offs with both engineers and product stakeholders.
• You enjoy working collaboratively in a cross-functional setup, giving and receiving feedback to help the team grow.

The salary range for this position is € 4,975 - € 6,725 gross per month.
