Senior Backend Engineer - Grafana App Platform | US (EST) | Remote

Grafana Labs is a remote-first, open-source powerhouse used by millions worldwide. As we evolve Grafana into a fully multi-tenant, scalable observability app platform, we are hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to help refactor core parts of Grafana and build a solid platform for Grafana Cloud apps and OSS integrations.

Responsibilities

• Code new features and enhance the operational experience of the systems you develop; iteratively improve systems based on production insights.
• Author, contribute to, and review design documents.
• Take an active role in shaping the product/technical roadmap.
• Mentor and support other team members and collaborate across teams and stakeholders.
• Own the customer experience by participating in weekday (12h x 5d) and separate weekend (24h x 2d) on-call rotations.

Requirements

• Strong coding skills and hands-on operational experience; you have been responsible for operating the software you built.
• Experience working on a SaaS platform and dealing with distributed systems problems such as scalability, multi-tenancy, data isolation, and high availability.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; you can express ideas clearly and choose the appropriate communication mode.
• Ability and willingness to work across teams, make plans transparent, and incorporate feedback from stakeholders.
• Pragmatic approach: prioritize progress over perfection and handle ambiguity effectively.
• Familiarity with Golang is desirable (Grafana uses Go on the backend) or a strong willingness to learn the language.
• Experience or interest in observability concepts (dashboards, alerts, incidents, telemetry) and building platform features that integrate those experiences.
• This role requires being located in the USA or Canada and working EST hours (the position is remote within those geographies).

Compensation & Benefits

• Base compensation range in the United States: USD 154,000 - USD 193,000 (actual compensation may vary based on level, experience, and skills assessed during the interview process).
• Roles include Restricted Stock Units (RSUs).
