The Cloud AutoScaling team builds vertical and horizontal auto-scaling capabilities for ClickHouse Cloud to evolve ClickHouse into a cloud-native, serverless-capable database. This role works closely with the ClickHouse core team and other cloud teams to design, build, and operate scalable cloud infrastructure and autoscaling systems.

Responsibilities

  • Build a cloud-native platform on top of public cloud providers.
  • Improve the metrics pipeline and develop algorithms to generate autoscaling statistics and recommendations.
  • Develop and maintain autoscaling components and a Kubernetes operator to support vertical and horizontal autoscaling.
  • Collaborate with ClickHouse core development and other data-plane teams to support autoscaling use cases and infrastructure improvements.
  • Architect and build robust, scalable, and highly available distributed infrastructure.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software development experience building and operating scalable, fault-tolerant distributed systems.
  • Production experience with programming languages such as Go and C++.
  • Experience building operators with Kubernetes and controller-runtime.
  • Experience with public cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure) and familiarity with IaaS (e.g., EC2).
  • Experience with data storage, ingestion, and transformation tools (Spark, Kafka, or similar).
  • Comfortable with PagerDuty/on-call and debugging production systems; strong problem-solving skills.
  • Experience or interest in metrics pipelines, autoscaling algorithms, and cloud-native system design.
  • Experience with Python and related frameworks/tools (examples called out: uv, rye, FastAPI) and data science libraries (Pandas, NumPy) is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively across engineering teams.
