Senior Data Scientist

At Coinbase, the Data Science team partners with Product, Engineering, and Design to influence the roadmap and produce insights that directly move the company's bottom line. The role is remote-first but not remote-only; in-person participation (team and company offsites) is required throughout the year.

Responsibilities

• Conduct analysis and deep dives on ambiguous business problems and deliver insights and recommendations that guide decision making.
• Act as owner for a broad scope of data and metrics, from core logging to presentation of data visualizations.
• Guide code reviews, provide SQL and Python expertise, and create well-maintained ETL jobs.
• Maintain a high bar for statistical rigor across the team; design and evaluate experimentation and causal analyses to build stakeholder confidence.
• Apply complex modeling frameworks to practical business problems and synthesize findings into compelling stories for stakeholders.

Requirements

• BA/BS in a quantitative field (e.g., Math, Statistics, Physics, Computer Science) with ≥5 years of relevant experience, or a PhD in a quantitative field with ≥3 years of relevant experience.
• Demonstrated experience driving impactful data science projects in ambiguous problem spaces.
• Practical expertise applying complex modeling frameworks to business problems.
• Professional experience using SQL and Python; able to author and review production-quality code and ETL jobs.
• Strong statistical foundations and experience designing and evaluating experiments and causal analyses.
• Experience working with digital products in an iterative development cycle and influencing external stakeholders through data-driven storytelling.
