Senior Data Scientist

At Coinbase you will work on data products that support cash flow processes, payments, cash reconciliations, and safeguarding of assets. You will gather financial data from platform data, external financial institutions, market data, and internal financial systems to transform raw data into meaningful insights. The role partners closely with Finance, Product, and Engineering to build data models, pipelines, dashboards and automation that enable decision-making and scale financial processes.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Product and Engineering to drive new initiatives and support product launches that fuel business growth.
• Define data models and contracts; scale data quality checks and contract enforcement.
• Extract financial data and insights by partnering with Accounting, Treasury and other Finance functions; provide data-driven recommendations to improve financial processes.
• Act as a strategic partner to functional teams: design and scope project plans; execute, test and implement data and reporting solutions.
• Initiate, develop and maintain data pipelines and data models that power dashboards and data products with strong craft.
• Work with Data and Engineering teams to scale the platform via better systems and automation.
• Develop interactive dashboards and visualizations to present financial insights to stakeholders.
• Partner with peers and stakeholders to define and execute roadmaps to scale the function.

Requirements

• 5+ years of relevant experience.
• Self-starter, able to multitask, and highly collaborative across cross-functional teams.
• Strong experience with data processing (ETL) and building data pipelines.
• Fluency in complex SQL.
• High proficiency with scripting languages (preferably Python).
• Knowledge of data modeling, architecture and best practices.
• Experience using Apache Airflow or similar orchestration systems.
• Strong understanding of key finance principles and products within Accounting and Treasury domain; eagerness to learn domain specifics.
• Ability to independently create documentation for new data projects and to build collaboration within the team.
• Demonstrated cultural values: clear communication, positive energy, continuous learning, ownership and efficient execution.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have

• Previous experience working with financial services data.
• Previous working experience or knowledge of crypto.
• Domain experience in Payments, Accounting and Finance areas.
• Experience with Looker, Tableau or other business intelligence platforms.
• Experience manipulating large amounts of structured and unstructured data.

Work arrangement

• Coinbase is remote-first but not remote-only; in-person participation is required throughout the year and team/company offsites are held multiple times annually. Attendance is expected and supported.

Compensation

• Target pay range: $180,370 — $212,200 USD (full-time offers may also include target bonus, target equity and benefits).
