Senior Data Scientist

At Coinbase you will help increase economic freedom by building data products and pipelines that support Finance operations (payments, cash reconciliations, safeguarding of assets) and drive analytics for cash flow understanding. The role partners closely with Finance, Product, and Engineering to gather financial data from platform sources, external financial institutions, market data, and internal financial systems, transforming raw data into meaningful insights and scalable data models.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Product and Engineering to drive new initiatives and support product launches.
• Define data models and contracts; scale and enforce data quality checks and contracts.
• Partner with Accounting, Treasury, and Finance stakeholders to extract financial data, provide insights, and recommend efficiency improvements for financial processes.
• Act as a strategic partner to functional teams; design, scope, execute, test, and implement data and reporting solutions.
• Develop and maintain data pipelines and data models that power dashboards and data products with strong craftsmanship.
• Work with Data and Engineering teams to identify opportunities to scale the platform through improved systems and automation.
• Build interactive dashboards and visualizations to present financial insights to stakeholders.
• Define and execute roadmaps with peers and stakeholders to help the function scale.

Requirements

• 5+ years of relevant experience.
• Strong experience with data processing (ETL) and building data pipelines.
• Fluency in complex SQL.
• High proficiency with a scripting language (preferably Python).
• Knowledge of data modeling, architecture, and best practices.
• Experience using Apache Airflow or similar orchestration systems.
• Strong understanding of key finance principles and products within Accounting and Treasury domains, and eagerness to learn.
• Ability to independently create documentation for new data projects and build collaboration within the team.
• Demonstrated core cultural values: clear communication, positive energy, continuous learning, ownership, and efficient execution.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to haves

• Previous experience working with financial services data.
• Previous working experience or knowledge of crypto.
• Domain experience in Payments, Accounting and Finance areas.
• Experience with Looker, Tableau or other BI platforms.
• Experience manipulating large amounts of structured and unstructured data.

Pay Transparency Notice

The target annual salary for this position (full-time) is listed below. Full-time offers also include target bonus, target equity, and benefits.

Pay Range: $191,100 — $191,100 CAD
