The Consumer, Financial Services team is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead a growing engineering team building crypto-enabled financial services such as peer-to-peer payments and card products for everyday use. The role requires in-person participation throughout the year (team and company offsites are held multiple times annually) though many roles at Coinbase are remote-first.

Responsibilities

  • Build and manage engineering teams focused on delivering trade-fi utility using blockchain advantages.
  • Coach direct reports to have positive organizational impact and support their career growth; manage managers (this role requires experience managing managers).
  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers, and senior leadership to translate vision into quarterly roadmaps; break down complex projects and lead iterative design and implementation.
  • Serve as a technical leader within the team, drive architectural decisions, and foster a culture of high-quality code and engineering processes.
  • Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to ensure delivery and operation of multi‑tenanted, distributed systems at scale.
  • Partner with the talent organization to identify and recruit exceptional engineering candidates aligned with Coinbase culture.
  • Contribute to and own processes that drive engineering quality and meet engineering SLAs; participate in on-call rotations, incident leadership, triage, and troubleshooting when needed.

Requirements

  • Experience in peer-to-peer payments, remittances, and financial products (credit cards, debit cards, bill pay, direct deposit).
  • Experience in crypto, particularly blockchain networks; answers to crypto-related questions may be used to evaluate on‑chain experience.
  • At least 10 years of experience in software engineering.
  • At least 5 years of engineering management experience, including a minimum of 2 years managing managers.
  • Strong understanding of high-quality code and software engineering processes and the ability to foster environments that create them.
  • Execution-focused with the ability to navigate ambiguity; comfortable with both long-term strategy and short-term planning.
  • Experience creating, delivering, and operating multi‑tenanted, distributed systems at scale.
  • Ability to be hands-on when needed (code review, writing technical docs, participating in on-call rotations, leading incidents, troubleshooting bugs).

Compensation

Pay Range: $236,725 — $278,500 USD (target annual salary). Full-time offers also include target bonus, target equity, and benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401(k)).
