Senior Engineering Manager (Consumer - Growth App & Infra)

The Consumer, Financial Services team is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead a talented and growing engineering team focused on consumer growth applications and infrastructure that enable crypto-enabled financial services (peer-to-peer payments, card products, remittances, etc.). This role requires a leader who is passionate about crypto and blockchain, experienced in building and operating large distributed systems, and comfortable both managing and being technically hands-on when necessary.

Responsibilities

• Build and manage engineering teams responsible for providing trade‑fi utility using the advantages of blockchain.
• Coach direct reports and support career growth; manage managers and grow leaders.
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers, and senior leadership to translate vision into a quarterly roadmap; break down complex projects and lead iterative design and implementation.
• Serve as a technical voice for the team, influence architecture decisions, and foster high code quality and engineering processes.
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering to deliver and operate multi‑tenanted, distributed systems at scale.
• Work with talent/recruiting to identify and hire engineers who align with Coinbase culture.
• Contribute to and own processes that drive engineering quality and meet engineering SLAs.
• Be prepared to be hands-on: write/review code or technical docs, participate in on‑call rotations, lead incidents, and triage/troubleshoot bugs.

Requirements

• Experience in peer-to-peer payments, remittances, and financial products such as credit cards, debit cards, bill pay, and direct deposit.
• Experience in crypto, particularly blockchain networks.
• At least 10 years of experience in software engineering.
• At least 5 years of engineering management experience and a minimum of 2 years managing managers.
• Strong judgment about what constitutes high quality code and engineering processes and the ability to foster that environment.
• Execution-focused with the ability to navigate ambiguity and balance long-term strategy with short-term planning.
• Experience creating, delivering, and operating multi‑tenanted, distributed systems at scale.
• Ability to be hands-on when needed: coding, participating on-call, incident leadership, bug triage and troubleshooting.
• Passion for building an open financial system and using crypto/blockchain to update financial infrastructure.

• While many roles at Coinbase are remote‑first, this role is not remote‑only: in‑person participation is required throughout the year for team and company offsites (attendance expected).
