Grafana Labs is a remote-first, open-source powerhouse. There are more than 20M users of Grafana, the open source visualization tool, around the globe, monitoring everything from beehives to climate change in the Alps. Grafana Labs helps more than 3,000 companies manage their observability strategies with the Grafana stack, which can be run fully managed with Grafana Cloud or self-managed with the Grafana Enterprise Stack, both featuring scalable metrics (Grafana Mimir), logs (Grafana Loki), and traces (Grafana Tempo).
We’re scaling fast and staying true to what makes us different: an open-source legacy, a global collaborative culture, and a passion for meaningful work. The team thrives in an innovation-driven environment where transparency, autonomy, and trust fuel everything we do.
Role description
As a Senior Software Engineer in the AWS Data Sources squad, you’ll take a leading role in the development of open-source data source plugins for Grafana. The Data Sources group connects to and queries a wide library of data sources; the AWS Data Sources squad builds and maintains open-source data source plugins in partnership with AWS. The mission is to deliver high-quality plugins that enable Grafana users to query data directly from AWS and visualize it within Grafana in a unified view.
This is a remote role based in Germany (remote-first, with in-person onboarding). You will collaborate across the Data Sources team and with other squads throughout the Grafana division.
Responsibilities
- Enhance the querying experience within Grafana data sources and improve user-facing plugin functionality.
- Investigate and resolve configuration and integration issues for data source plugins.
- Support reliability and operations of data sources running in Grafana Cloud, including participating in on-call rotations.
- Collaborate with engineers and teams across the Grafana division and with AWS partners to design, implement, and maintain high-quality open-source plugins.
- Work on both frontend (React/TypeScript) and backend/microservice components; contribute to operational/runbook improvements and SRE tasks.
Requirements
- Professional experience as a Full-stack or Frontend Engineer with expertise in React and TypeScript.
- Prior experience building user-facing open-source software and comfortable contributing to open-source projects.
- Experience or familiarity with microservices architecture; Go (Golang) experience is a plus.
- Familiarity with AWS products and services such as CloudWatch, OpenSearch, Redshift, Athena, Aurora, and Amazon Prometheus.
- Experience or comfort with being on-call and performing operations/SRE tasks.
- Experience with configuration and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Jsonnet and Terraform.
- Familiarity with containerization and orchestration: Docker and Kubernetes.
- Understanding of monitoring and observability tooling, including Grafana and Prometheus.
- Strong remote communication skills and ability to work effectively in a remote-first company.
What makes you a great fit
- Proven experience with frontend technologies: React and TypeScript.
- Backend familiarity with Go and other backend languages.
- Experience with configuration tools (Jsonnet, Terraform) and cloud services (AWS).
- Familiarity with container tooling (Docker, Kubernetes) and monitoring/observability practices.
- Comfortable with on-call rotations and operational responsibilities.
Compensation & Benefits
- Germany base compensation range: EUR 94,208 - EUR 113,050 (base). Actual compensation varies by level, experience, and skillset. Roles include Restricted Stock Units (RSUs).
