The Privacy Engineering team builds technologies to protect user data and ensure compliance with global privacy regulations. We design and implement scalable privacy solutions that empower product teams to innovate while upholding high standards of data privacy, working with design, product, legal, operations, security, infrastructure and other engineering teams.
Responsibilities
- Design, prototype, and productionize next-generation privacy product and infrastructure solutions.
- Work cross-functionally with product, design, and engineering counterparts to execute on product and business strategy.
- Provide technical leadership and collaborate with privacy experts to design and integrate privacy safeguards into Airbnb’s tech stack.
- Drive and contribute across the full software development lifecycle: technical design, development, QA, experimentation, analysis, and launch.
- Provide critical input in code and design reviews, give feedback on product specs and mocks, and influence team roadmap and long-term technical direction.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to enable Privacy by Design in engineering and product development processes.
Requirements / Your Expertise
- 6+ years of full stack software development experience.
- Proficient in at least one major programming language (preferably Java, Kotlin, or Scala).
- Experience with modern JavaScript / TypeScript frameworks such as React, Preact, Angular, Next, Vue, or Meteor.
- Hands-on experience writing, optimizing, and monitoring GraphQL queries and mutations in production.
- Passion for delivering products end-to-end: ideation, planning and scoping, implementation, and experimental A/B testing.
- Exposure to architectural patterns of large, high-scale web applications, including well-designed APIs, high-volume data pipelines, and efficient algorithms.
- Passion for design and building UX products; able to collaborate with design and product partners and present tradeoffs.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills with strong attention to detail.
- Desire to work collaboratively with cross-functional partners such as design, product, data science, infrastructure, policy, operations, and legal.
- Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree, preferably in Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
- Familiarity with privacy regulations (such as GDPR) and privacy-enforcing tooling and infrastructure.
Location
- This position is US - Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed with your manager.
- You must live in a U.S. state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity (some states are excluded; check Airbnb careers for the up-to-date list).
How We’ll Take Care of You / Benefits
- Base pay range: $180,000—$220,000 USD (actual base pay depends on factors like experience, skills, and market).
- This role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.
