This role is for a Senior iOS Engineer to join a small team focused on improving and building new experiences for Perplexity's native iOS app. The role emphasizes strong Swift fundamentals, a modern iOS stack (SwiftUI and UIKit), performance optimization, and delivering high-quality UX/UI.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a native iOS app for Perplexity's evolving product.
  • Define and improve mobile development processes, including planning, testing, releasing, and monitoring.
  • Collaborate with the core team to design and implement novel mobile experiences.
  • Measure and profile app performance and optimize for speed and responsiveness.
  • Own features end-to-end in a small, fast-moving team.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of industry experience in mobile/iOS development.
  • Strong Swift fundamentals and proven experience with a modern iOS stack built with Swift, SwiftUI (iOS 16+) and UIKit.
  • Craftsmanship in building polished UIs and delivering a strong UX; focus on reusable and testable code.
  • Understanding of low-level iOS intricacies and experience profiling and measuring app performance.
  • Comfortable working in a small, fast-moving team and willing to take ownership of features.
  • Interest in search and large language models is preferred.

Nice to have

  • Experience with related platforms such as macOS and tools like Mac Catalyst.
  • Experience with WebSockets and HTTP.
  • Experience with concurrency and multithreading (GCD, critical sections, race conditions).

Compensation & Benefits

  • Cash compensation range: $180,000 - $220,000 per year.
  • Final offer amounts depend on experience and expertise and may vary from the range above.
