Team Overview
The Integrations team is the bridge between ClickHouse and the entire data ecosystem. They build and maintain connections that make ClickHouse accessible to millions of developers and data practitioners worldwide. Their work spans from low-level database drivers to high-level data visualization plugins, ensuring seamless integration with tools such as Python, JavaScript, Java, Go, Rust, C++, Kafka, dbt, Spark, Fivetran, Grafana, Tableau, PowerBI, and Metabase.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a core contributor owning and maintaining critical parts of ClickHouse's data engineering ecosystem.
- Work at the intersection of high-performance database engineering and developer experience.
- Own the full lifecycle of data framework integrations—from core database drivers handling billions of records per second to SDKs and connectors for JVM-based applications.
- Impact companies processing massive datasets with real-time analytics platforms and observability systems.
- Collaborate with open-source community, internal teams, and enterprise users to set standards for performance, reliability, and developer experience.
Requirements
- 5+ years of software development experience focused on high-quality, data-intensive solutions.
- Strong proficiency in Java and the JVM ecosystem, including memory management, garbage collection tuning, and performance profiling.
- Solid experience with concurrent programming in Java (threads, executors, reactive or asynchronous patterns).
- Experience with connectors, sinks, or sources for big data processing frameworks such as Apache Spark, Flink, Beam, or Kafka Connect.
- Strong understanding of database fundamentals: SQL, data modeling, query optimization, OLAP/analytical databases.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- Passion for open-source development and community engagement.
Bonus Points
- Prior contributions to open-source projects.
- Familiarity with ClickHouse or similar high-performance data platforms.
- Expertise in building sinks or source connectors for big data frameworks.
- Working knowledge of Python in data engineering contexts (e.g., Pandas, PySpark, Airflow).
- Understanding of JDBC, network protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP), and data throughput optimization.
Compensation
Typical starting salary ranges in the United States vary by location and candidate factors:
- New York Area / San Francisco Area: $157,000 - $232,000 USD
- Washington State: $141,300 - $197,200 USD
- General US Remote: $125,600 - $185,500 USD
- Los Angeles, CA / Washington, DC: $141,300 - $208,800 USD
- Seattle, WA: $121,500 - $208,800 USD
