At Coinbase, our mission is to increase economic freedom in the world. As a Senior Machine Learning Engineer on Platform, you will help build the emerging onchain platform and leverage diverse data sources, including the blockchain, to expand access to cryptocurrency while identifying and stopping malicious actors. You will also apply ML to improve user experience across recommendations, risk assessment, chatbots, and other product areas.

Responsibilities

• Investigate and harness cutting-edge machine learning methodologies, including deep learning, reinforcement learning, and graph neural networks, to address problems across the company (fraud detection, feed ranking, recommendation systems, targeting, chatbots, blockchain mining).
• Develop and deploy robust, low-maintenance applied machine learning solutions in production.
• Create onboarding codelabs, tools, and infrastructure to democratize access to ML resources across Coinbase.
• Contribute to building ML capabilities that operate at scale and integrate blockchain data when appropriate.

Requirements

• 5+ years of industry experience in machine learning.
• MS degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Data Mining, Statistics, or a related technical field.
• Strong experience with at least one ML model family: DNNs, graph neural networks (GNNs), reinforcement learning, deep learning, logistic regression, gradient boosting trees, etc.
• Solid working knowledge in one or more of: data mining, information retrieval, advanced statistics, natural language processing, or computer vision.
• Experience building and deploying production ML systems at scale.
• Exhibit core cultural values: positive energy, clear communication, curiosity, and a builder mindset.

Nice to Haves

• PhD degree (strongly preferred) with 3+ years of relevant experience.
• Experience with Python.
• Experience with data analysis and visualization.

Location & Work Model

• Remote-first (listing indicates #LI-Remote). In-person participation is required throughout the year for team and company-wide offsites; attendance is expected.

Pay

• Pay Range: $191,100—$191,100 CAD (target annual salary). Full-time offers also include bonus eligibility, equity eligibility, and benefits (medical, dental, vision).
