Senior Machine Learning Platform Engineer (Platform - AI)

Details

At Coinbase you will help build the foundational components for training and serving ML models used to combat fraud, personalize user experiences, and analyze blockchains. The role is on a lean platform team where you will apply software engineering skills across stream processing, distributed training, and highly available online services. Coinbase is remote-first but not remote-only; in-person participation (team/company offsites) is expected throughout the year.

Responsibilities

• Form a deep understanding of Machine Learning Engineers’ needs and identify current capabilities and gaps.
• Mentor junior engineers and raise engineering standards through high-quality code and communication.
• Maintain high-availability and low-latency ML inference infrastructure for both predictive ML models and LLMs.
• Optimize low-latency streaming pipelines to deliver fresh, high-quality data to models.
• Evangelize and implement state-of-the-art practices for building high-performance distributed training jobs that process large volumes of data.
• Build tooling to observe data quality entering models and to detect degradations that impact model performance.

Requirements

• 5+ years of industry experience as a Software Engineer.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems.
• Proven ability to lead by example with high-quality code and excellent communication skills.
• Strong system and API design skills; ability to bring clarity to complex technical requirements.
• Customer-focused mindset toward other engineers; obsessive focus on delivering a seamless developer experience.
• Mastery of fundamentals enabling you to work across varied technologies and operate at a high level.

• Experience building ML models and working with ML systems (including LLMs).

• Pay Range (target annual salary): $191,100 — $191,100 CAD. Full-time offers also include target bonus, target equity, and benefits (medical, dental, vision).
