Airbnb was born in 2007 when two hosts welcomed three guests to their San Francisco home, and has since grown to over 5 million hosts who have welcomed over 2 billion guest arrivals in almost every country across the globe. Every day, hosts offer unique stays and experiences that make it possible for guests to connect with communities in a more authentic way.

Role overview

Airbnb’s mission is to create a world where people can belong anywhere. As we continue to grow and pursue that mission, we’re seeking a technical, hands-on, and mission-driven Senior Manager of Technical Program Management (TPM). You will partner with the Infrastructure organization (foundational technology offerings), the Central Data team (transforming data into knowledge & intelligence with governance), and the Privacy team (data protection and privacy compliance worldwide).

The difference you will make / Responsibilities

  • Lead complex technical programs and AI transformation efforts focused on system integration and infrastructure, applying deep AI fluency and advanced software architecture skills to accelerate development cycles.
  • Drive predictable, impactful delivery of complex cross-functional programs; maintain a portfolio view of programs and ensure senior leadership has visibility into execution status, issues, and decisions.
  • Oversee technical execution at a granular level: manage architectural dependencies, mitigate engineering risks, and proactively identify and resolve technical risks and technical debt.
  • Deploy and champion AI-powered solutions for bug triage, predictive root cause analysis, automated testing, and to improve code quality and architectural health across the infrastructure domain.
  • Collaborate with leaders across the company to create alignment on strategies and roadmaps, prioritize effectively, and make trade-offs against overall strategy and organizational constraints.
  • Partner with cross-functional leaders to understand needs and opportunities, offering strategic perspective and sound judgment to achieve business impact.
  • Build and maintain a high-performance culture: recruit, develop, mentor, and provide continual feedback and career growth for a team of TPMs.
  • Scale team impact by favoring automation over manual work, setting realistic goals, and up-leveling TPM skills.
  • Provide executional guidance and support for team projects by simplifying technically complex problems, unblocking teams, and identifying risks and opportunities.
  • Occasionally provide hands-on management of large, complex, strategic programs.

Requirements / Your expertise

  • 13+ years of experience building and managing a team of Technical Program Managers within the Infrastructure technology domain.
  • Strong technical program management background with demonstrated experience leading large projects across multiple software teams.
  • Experience leading and mentoring TPMs and creating a culture of inclusiveness and sustainability.
  • Organizational leadership skills with the ability to collaborate with and influence teams across boundaries.
  • Self-motivated, curious, proactive, and able to adapt to teams with different operating cadences.
  • Experience working in a highly cross-functional environment with imperative cross-group communication.
  • Domain knowledge called out in the role: AI (deep AI fluency), software architecture, cloud infrastructure, and MLOps. Familiarity with data governance and privacy/data protection expectations is required due to partnership with Central Data and Privacy teams.
