Details

We are seeking an experienced Senior Product Designer to join Customer.io's growing design organization. This role focuses on craft, systems thinking, and mentorship. You will shape multi-team customer journeys, evolve the Pluma design system, and use data and modern tools (including AI-enhanced prototyping) to move quickly from insight to execution. You will work closely with engineers, product managers, and peers to create cohesive, accessible experiences that improve usability, retention, and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Lead cross-squad initiatives shaping key customer journeys from concept through shipped experience.
  • Contribute small front-end changes directly to the UI to support rapid iteration and collaboration with engineering.
  • Explore multiple solutions to complex UX challenges and validate assumptions through rapid experimentation and AI-assisted workflows.
  • Elevate visual language and interaction design to ensure consistency, accessibility, and delight.
  • Mentor peers and contribute to team growth through critiques, async feedback, and documentation.
  • Leverage AI tools (e.g., Figma AI, Lovable) to accelerate prototyping, summarize insights, and improve iteration cycles.
  • Evolve the Pluma design system with reusable components and scalable patterns.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering to deliver high-quality, performant, and maintainable designs.
  • Synthesize research and behavioral data to uncover pain points and opportunities across the customer lifecycle.
  • Define and track design success metrics tied to usability, engagement, and retention.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of professional experience designing digital products (SaaS or complex web applications preferred).
  • Proven ability to lead multi-team design initiatives that drive measurable outcomes.
  • Deep visual and interaction design expertise (layout, hierarchy, motion, accessibility).
  • Systems thinking and experience building or scaling design systems (Pluma mentioned as the company system).
  • Fluency with front-end principles and an understanding of technical constraints; able to make small front-end contributions.
  • Comfortable using AI-enhanced tools and modern prototyping workflows.
  • Excellent asynchronous communication skills: clear documentation, storytelling, and a bias for clarity and action.
  • Track record of mentorship, collaboration, and influence within design teams.

Nice to Have

  • Experience contributing to or maintaining a design system at scale.
  • Familiarity with motion design, micro-interactions, or 3D/visual storytelling.
  • Background in data visualization or designing for analytics-heavy experiences.
  • Experience collaborating in remote, async-first environments.
  • Interest in how AI and automation can improve creative and operational workflows.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Starting salary range: $171,000 - $190,000 USD (or equivalent in local currency), depending on experience and market adjustments.
  • Zone 1: $206,000 - $228,000 USD
  • Zone 2: $188,000 - $209,000 USD
  • Zone 3: $171,000 - $190,000 USD
  • Benefits include 100% coverage of medical, dental, vision, mental health, and supplemental insurance premiums for you and your family, 16 weeks paid parental leave, unlimited PTO, remote work and wellness stipends, a professional development budget, and more. (See full benefits on the company careers page.)

Hiring Process

  1. 30-min Intro Call with Recruiter
  2. 45-min video call with Hiring Manager
  3. 60-min video Portfolio Presentation with Design, Eng, and Product
  4. Final Stage:
