About the Team
The Consumer Products Research team is an Applied Research team focused on developing new methods and models to support our vision for the future of computing as we advance forward in our mission of building AGI that benefits all of humanity.
About the Role
As a Research Engineer/Scientist on the Consumer Products Research team, you will work together with both the best ML researchers in the world and the greatest design talent of our generation to push the frontier of model capabilities.
This role is based in San Francisco, CA. We follow a hybrid model with 4 days a week in the office and offer relocation assistance to new employees.
Responsibilities
- Train and evaluate multimodal state-of-the-art (SoTA) models along axes that are important to our vision for future devices.
- Develop novel architectures that improve model performance when scaling the models themselves is not an option.
- Convert nascent research capabilities into practical capabilities that can be built on top of.
- Work closely with ML researchers, designers, and engineering teams (including GPU kernel engineers) to optimize model performance and deployment on constrained compute environments.
Requirements
- Research background adapting transformers to run in environments with significantly less compute than traditional GPUs and datacenter accelerators.
- Strong interest in performance optimization and collaboration with GPU/kernel engineers (CUDA experience is not required).
- Demonstrated ability to do rigorous, scientifically sound experimentation and analysis.
- Experience teaching models to speak and perceive (multimodal model work).
- Experience with model training and evaluation, model architecture development, and turning research prototypes into usable capabilities.
Benefits
- Salary range: $380,000 - $460,000 plus equity.
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance with employer contributions to Health Savings Accounts.
- Pre-tax accounts (Health FSA, Dependent Care FSA, commuter accounts).
