We are looking for a strong engineer in the DRIVE Road Structure / Online Mapping / Context Fusion team to help craft and guide the future of our autonomous driving solution. The role focuses on providing a complete 3D world model that fuses signals between map and perception, enabling safe and reliable driving in challenging roads and intersections across geographies (U.S. and China). You will collaborate closely with perception and planning teams and will be expected to work with large amounts of real and synthetic data while producing code and designs that meet automotive quality and safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Develop core functionality for autonomous driving across geographies based on fusion of state-of-the-art perception DNNs and map signals.
- Generate a real-time 3D world model used by planning, incorporating inputs from multiple sensors and external sources.
- Enable HD mapless driving in complex urban scenarios by creating enriched BEV (bird's-eye view) models of the world.
- Enable Level 3 autonomy on highways by creating accurate, reliable, and safe models from camera, lidar, and radar perception plus map signals.
- Build fused static obstacles, occupancy grids, and occlusion masks to enrich AV scenarios.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance on approaches to solve challenging AV problems and be a hands-on collaborator with the team.
- Mentor and grow strong engineers within the team.
- Ensure algorithms work well on large volumes of real and synthetic data across diverse environments and conditions.
- Produce code and designs that follow automotive quality and safety standards.
Requirements
- BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 8+ years of experience, with at least 2+ years in the AV or robotics industry.
- 2+ years of experience technically leading areas.
- Passion for robotics and autonomous vehicles, and drive to learn and tackle meaningful problems.
- Outstanding communication and cross-team collaboration skills, especially with multinational teams.
- Independent and analytical software engineering skills.
- Software development experience on embedded or automotive platforms.
Ways To Stand Out
- Background in 3D computational geometry, computer vision, sensor fusion, localization, mapping, trajectory optimization, or state estimation algorithms (e.g., Kalman filters, particle filters).
- Significant industry experience in autonomous vehicles, especially self-driving cars.
- Experience developing real-time computer vision systems.
- Strong API and framework design skills.
Benefits & Compensation
- Base salary range (USD):
- Level 4: 184,000 USD - 287,500 USD
- Level 5: 224,000 USD - 356,500 USD
- Eligible for equity and company benefits.
Location & Timeline
- Location: Santa Clara, CA, United States.
- Applications accepted at least until July 29, 2025.
