Role overview

The Android Platform team’s mission is to provide a best-in-class experience for Android development at Airbnb to empower engineers to deliver innovative solutions with high velocity and quality at scale. The team’s work spans frameworks and tooling, build systems, CI, testing, and IDE integrations. Recent projects include Trio (an Android framework for Jetpack Compose screen architecture) and Focus Mode (an Android Studio plugin to improve IDE & sync performance).

In this role you will drive projects that increase developer productivity and unlock new capabilities through frameworks and tooling.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with team members and cross-functional partners to identify opportunities to improve Android developer productivity.
• Drive roadmap projects and deliver high-quality results aligned with the team mission.
• Improve and evolve frameworks and build systems to support ambitious engineering goals.
• Work on areas spanning frameworks, tooling, build systems, CI, testing, and IDE integrations.
• Occasionally travel to the San Francisco office for about a week each quarter for gatherings.

Requirements

• 5–9 years of industry experience building Android apps using Kotlin.
• Experience building frameworks and build systems (examples: Gradle, Bazel).
• Deep technical understanding of dependency injection systems (e.g., Dagger).
• Experience building code generation tools (e.g., annotation processors, KSP, Kotlin compiler plugins).
• Experience working in medium- to large-scale codebases.
• Ability to travel to the San Francisco office about one week each quarter.

Nice to have:

• 2+ years of experience using Jetpack Compose.
• Experience building Android Studio / IntelliJ IDEA plugins.
• Experience using Compose for Desktop.

Location eligibility:

• This position is US - Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed with your manager.
• You must live in a U.S. state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity (some states are excluded). If employed by another Airbnb entity, your recruiter will advise eligible states.

Benefits

• Base pay range: $191,000 — $223,000 USD (actual base pay depends on experience, skills, business needs and market demands).
• This role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.
