Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Consumer - Coinbase Card)

At Coinbase, our mission is to increase economic freedom in the world. This role sits on the Coinbase Card team and focuses on building and designing the crypto Card product with emphasis on global availability, fund safety, outstanding reliability and ease of use. The team expects in-person participation throughout the year (team and company offsites are held multiple times annually) while being remote-first.

Responsibilities

• Build new backend services for the Card program using Golang.
• Design scalable systems using modern cloud technologies and industry best practices.
• Articulate long-term vision for maintaining and scaling backend systems and the teams operating them.
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers and senior leadership to translate product and technical vision into quarterly roadmaps.
• Write high-quality, well-tested code to meet customer needs.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience in software engineering.
• Experience with Card products and having built or worked on such a product at scale.
• Experience designing, building, scaling and maintaining production services and composing service-oriented architectures.
• Strong emphasis on writing high-quality, well-tested code.
• Passion for building open financial systems and familiarity with crypto/blockchain concepts is valued.

Nice to haves

• Experience scaling with rapid company growth (startup to mid-size).
• Experience with growth experiments or A/B testing frameworks.
• Experience with blockchain technologies (Bitcoin, Ethereum, etc.).
• Experience with Golang, Postgres, MongoDB or DynamoDB.
• Experience building financial, high-reliability, or security-focused systems.
• Crypto-forward experience, including familiarity with onchain activity.

Compensation & Work Policy

• Pay Range: $186,005 — $218,900 USD (target annual salary depending on work location). Full-time offers also include target bonus, target equity and benefits.
• Role is remote-first but not remote-only; in-person participation and attendance at offsites is expected and supported.
