Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Consumer - Growth)

At Coinbase, the Growth organization builds and leverages tools (referral and incentives programs, notifications, logged-out web experiences, onboarding flows) to bring the world onchain. This backend role works on large-scale, high-frequency, low-latency, secure cloud systems that power growth for Coinbase's retail products. In-person participation is required throughout the year (team and company offsites), though the role is remote-first. Job #: GCBE05CA

Responsibilities

• Build and run experiments to power the growth of Coinbase’s retail products (growth experiments, A/B testing).
• Design scalable backend systems using modern cloud technology and industry best practices.
• Articulate a long-term vision for maintaining and scaling backend systems and the teams that run them.
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers, and senior leadership to turn product and technical vision into quarterly roadmaps.
• Write high-quality, well-tested production code.
• Operate real-time applications with high frequency, low-latency updates and maintain secure cloud infrastructure.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience in software engineering.
• Experience designing, building, scaling, and maintaining production services; knowledge of composing a service-oriented architecture.
• Demonstrated ability to write high-quality, well-tested code.
• Passion for building an open financial system and familiarity with crypto/blockchain concepts is desirable.

Nice to haves:

• Experience launching new products from 0 to 1.
• Experience with growth experiments or A/B testing frameworks.
• Experience with blockchain technologies (Bitcoin, Ethereum, etc.).
• Experience with Golang, Ruby, Docker, Rails, Postgres, MongoDB, or DynamoDB.
• Experience building fintech, highly reliable and/or secure systems.
• Crypto-forward experience (interacting with Ethereum addresses, using ENS, engaging with dApps or blockchain-based services).

Compensation

Pay Transparency Notice: The target annual salary for this position can range as detailed below. Full-time offers from Coinbase also include target bonus + target equity + benefits (including medical, dental, and vision).

Pay Range: $191,000 — $191,000 CAD
