The Growth organization drives Coinbase’s mission of bringing the world onchain by building growth tools across referral and incentives programs, notifications, logged-out web experiences, and optimizing new user onboarding.

This role is for experienced backend engineers to build the next generation of crypto-forward products and features. You will solve large-scale, highly complex technical problems that bridge web-scale application constraints and blockchain technology. You will build systems for real-time applications with high frequency, low latency updates, and manage secure cloud infrastructure. Many roles at Coinbase are remote-first but not remote-only; in-person participation and team/company offsites are required throughout the year.

Responsibilities

• Build and run experiments to power the growth of Coinbase’s retail products.
• Design scalable systems to solve novel problems using modern cloud technology and industry best practices.
• Articulate a long-term vision for maintaining and scaling backend systems and the teams that run them.
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers, and senior leadership to turn product and technical vision into a quarterly roadmap.
• Write high-quality, well-tested code to meet customer needs.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience in software engineering.
• Experience designing, building, scaling, and maintaining production services; familiarity with composing a service-oriented architecture.
• Strong emphasis on writing high-quality, well-tested code.
• Passion for building an open financial system and working with crypto/blockchain technologies.

Nice to haves

• Experience launching new products from 0 to 1.
• Experience with growth experiments or A/B testing frameworks.
• Experience with blockchain technology (Bitcoin, Ethereum, etc.).
• Experience with Golang, Ruby, Docker, Rails, Postgres, MongoDB, or DynamoDB.
• Experience building fintech, highly reliable, and/or secure systems.
• Familiarity with onchain activity such as interacting with Ethereum addresses, using ENS, and engaging with dApps or blockchain-based services.

Answers to crypto-related questions may be used to evaluate your onchain experience.

Location & Work Model

• #LI-Remote — Coinbase is remote-first but not remote-only. In-person participation is required throughout the year for team and company offsites; attendance is expected and supported.

Pay Transparency Notice

Depending on your work location, the target annual salary for this position can range as detailed below. Full-time offers from Coinbase also include bonus eligibility, equity eligibility, and benefits (medical, dental, vision, and 401(k)).

Pay Range: $186,065—$218,900 USD
