Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Developer - Onramp)

At Coinbase we’re building the emerging onchain platform and the future global financial system. Onramp and Offramp are the bridge between the fiat and onchain economies. Coinbase Onramp is the easiest way to move money onchain and a key part of onboarding users into crypto. You will join a startup team within Coinbase focused on building rails to move money onchain and offchain, supporting integrations used by major crypto applications.

Responsibilities

• Build reliable backend services and ship fast, accessible UIs that handle real-world edge cases.
• Design and implement distributed systems, microservices, and event-driven patterns.
• Integrate cleanly with internal and third-party services and APIs.
• Write high-quality, well-tested code and contribute to high-reliability production systems.
• Collaborate closely with designers and product managers to improve customer UX.
• Advocate for and build great developer tooling and platform experiences.
• Participate in team and company-wide in-person events and offsites as required.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience in software engineering.
• Strong full-stack engineering skills with a focus on backend services.
• Solid understanding of distributed systems, microservices architecture, and event-driven patterns.
• Experience writing high-quality, well-tested code for production systems.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills; ability to work with cross-functional product and design teams.
• Passion for developer tooling and platform quality.
• Passion for onchain / Web3 and understanding of blockchain technologies, particularly Ethereum and other EVM-compatible chains.

Nice to have

• Experience growing through rapid company stages (startup to mid-size).
• Hands-on experience building on blockchain platforms (Bitcoin, Ethereum, etc.).
• Experience decomposing a large monolith into microservices.
• Experience building financial, high-reliability, or security-critical systems.

Pay and Benefits

• Pay Range: $186,065 — $218,900 USD (target annual salary depending on work location). Full-time offers also include bonus eligibility, equity eligibility, and benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401(k)).

Work Culture & Onsite/Remote

• Coinbase is remote-first but not remote-only; in-person participation is required throughout the year and attendance at team/company offsites is expected and supported.
