Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Developer - Stablecoin Ecosystem)

At Coinbase, our mission is to increase economic freedom in the world. The Stablecoin team builds platforms and infrastructure for stablecoin issuance, growth, and utility, including a Rewards Orchestration System for retail and institutional customers across product surfaces such as Retail, Exchange, Prime, Custody, and Neptune.

This role is remote-first but requires in-person participation throughout the year for team and company offsites. The new hire will own projects as the Directly Responsible Individual (DRI) and help issue stablecoins (e.g., Canadian and Singaporean) and deploy stablecoins on more chains and across multiple Coinbase products.

Responsibilities

• Develop new services to meet critical product and business needs using industry best practices.
• Architect and design scalable systems to solve novel problems.
• Define a long-term vision for maintaining and scaling backend systems and teams.
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers, and senior leadership to turn vision into a quarterly roadmap.
• Serve as a technical lead and subject matter expert.
• Write high-quality, well-tested code to meet customer needs.

Requirements

• Minimum 5 years of experience in software engineering.
• Experience designing, building, scaling, and maintaining production services and knowledge of service-oriented architecture.
• Proficiency in writing high-quality, well-tested code.
• Leadership skills to develop other engineers and act as a technical lead (DRI responsibility).
• Passion for building an open financial system and working on stablecoin-related products.

Nice to haves

• Experience in rapid company growth (startup to mid-size).
• Familiarity with growth experiments or A/B testing frameworks.
• Experience with blockchain technologies (e.g., Bitcoin, Ethereum).
• Experience decomposing a large monolith into microservices.
• Proficiency with Golang, Ruby, Docker, Rails, Postgres, MongoDB, or DynamoDB.
• Experience building financial, high-reliability, or security systems.
